1927 Yankees Autograph Book Purchased Including Ruth and Gehrig

Just Collect has purchased another rare and very interesting find! This original autograph book contains signatures from the greatest baseball team in history: The 1927 New York Yankees. From Babe Ruth to Lou Gehrig, this book is iconic.

STORY OF THE AUTOGRAPH BOOK

Our story starts way back in 1920, in the little town of Holbrook, MA. The town faced a great deal of economic hardship during this time as it established itself as a working-class suburb. But there was one thing the people of this town could look forward to, and that was attending baseball games.

Like many, the people of Holbrook flocked to stadiums to watch baseball greats play their hearts out. During these games, kids in the crowd would often call out to players, asking for autographs and some were even lucky enough to receive them. One such lucky kid was the original owner of this autograph book.

Every game he attended, he’d always take a chance to get an autograph or two from a favorite player or star of the game. He stored all of them in the book below, and as we can see, it is still in decent condition!

APPRAISAL AND PURCHASE

Knowing that something like this would be worth something, the original owner kept the book in his family, waiting for the perfect moment to tell the world about it. The current owners set off to find more information and reached out to a friend of theirs who had some baseball memorabilia know-how. The family friend then reached out to Just Collect, after seeing how knowledgeable the company was when it came to things like this. After filling out our appraisal form, they spoke with our Vice President, John who knew this lead was almost too good to be true.

The retail stores are focused on selling modern products and simply don't have the time or the knowledge to carefully evaluate vintage collections of cards or autographs. When John finally got on the phone with them, he was shocked to learn that it was a family heirloom passed down from his grandfather. Nearly 90+ years later, the family was ready to part with this piece of history, wishing it to be preserved by someone who knows a little more about the history of it all.

While there are many iconic signatures in the book—ranging from “The Gray Eagle” Tris Speaker to “Iron Horse” Lou Gehrig—the headliner here was Babe Ruth, whose signature has great eye appeal, making him the star of the book.

The man nicknamed “the Sultan of Swat” was no slouch on the field. Known by many as the greatest baseball player of all time, his name is near synonymous with Baseball as a whole. With his abilities as a hitter and pitcher, it was no wonder every kid wanted to be him or as a consolation, get his autograph. When the family was deciding which signatures to get authenticated, it was clear that Babe Ruth’s was the only option.
