More treasures unearthed from The Nebraska Collection! A near set of 1952 Bowman baseball cards includes Hall of Famers and a few high-grade examples.
The Nebraska Collection is still producing incredible pieces of baseball history. A gentleman going by the name of simply Uncle Curtis contacted us through our easy-to-use
form on the Just Collect site. We flew out to Nebraska where we appraised a purchased a massive collection of cards, premiums, memorabilia and more for $77,000! In the collection was this amazing run of 1952 Bowman baseball cards.
1952 BOWMAN BASEBALL NEAR SET
Fresh off their well-known 1951 Bowman baseball set, the Bowman company gave us another stellar release of cards. Measuring 2 1/8" x 3 1/8", a total of 252 cards make up the 1952 set. Each card has an art reproduction of a photo for each player. The cards sport beautiful, vibrant colors along with a fascicle signature across the front.
This collection is a near set; not all 252 cards are present, but Uncle Curtis has key cards of Hall of Famers and a few of the cards are in high-grade! If you're not familiar with grading cards, using a scale from 1 to 10, the ten is Gem Mint - a perfect card. While a card has a decent chance of being graded a ten when taken out of a modern pack, finding vintage cards with higher grades is not common. Cards from the 1950's were played with, traded, flipped, and put in bike spokes. Safely storing baseball cards wasn't in the picture over a half Century ago! When we learned Uncle Curtis had a handful of 1952 Bowman cards graded by PSA, one of the top grading companies in the hobby, we checked the population report. Card 121, Al Corwin, is graded PSA 8. Only 14 copies of this card have ever been graded higher than a PSA 8! Just 11 copies of card 114, Frank Hiller, have been graded higher than the PSA 8 in this collection. Hall of Famers in the collection include Warren Spahn, Duke Snider, and Monte Irvin.
As you look at the photos below, you can see how crisp each card looks! These cards look as clean and sharp as the cards you pulled out of a 35-cent wax pack in the 1980's. Remember opening wax packs as a kid? That rock-hard, powdery stick of gum on top of your Don Mattingly card. That gum stain didn't matter; you still loved pulling that card and putting it in your nine-pocket page in your binder anyway -we did, too!
