1959 Topps baseball sealed wax pack! Your chance to won a piece of baseball history is here with us at Just Collect. What kind of treasure would reside in this piece? See how YOU can find out.
The 1959 Topps baseball set is one our favorites. In total, 572 cards were released that year with each measuring 2.5" by 3.5". Close-up images of each player don the front of the cards with a baseball-shaped frame circling all. A facsimile autograph is on the front of the cards, all of which have bright, solid, eye-catching colors. Legends in the set include Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and the rookie card of Bob Gibson.
Remember opening wax packs as a kid? You'd flip pack over and pull apart that wax wrapper from the back. Inside were a handful of cards and a giant stick of gum! Back in the days when a pack of cards was the best thing about your day. No adult problems. No mortgages. Ride your bike to the store, spend your allowance on a pack, and then hope you pulled out your favorite player. Well before the Internet, I kept track of my set list using graph paper. Never wanted to write on the checklist cards; they were part of my set! Wax packs were meant to be opened. Cards were meant be collected. However, thankfully, this particular wax pack was saved from being opened.
1959 Topps baseball penny wax pack! Here are photos of this treasure:
Graded by PSA, this wax pack contains one card from the 1959 Topps baseball set. These are called "penny" packs as you can see the one cent price on the wrapper. Back in 1959, you could go to the store and purchase a pack for just a single penny!
We don't know which card is in this pack, but as there are only 572 cards in the set, you have a 1 in 572 chance at getting that star card you dream of! The big question is: would you open the pack or keep it sealed?
You're never guaranteed a high-grade card, but a pack-fresh card stands the best chance. Looking at the PSA population report, just three PSA 10 Bob Gibson rookie cards are known. Just imagine.
Pulled a Mickey Mantle! Live on stage at the National Sports Collectors Convention, we opened up a 1955 Bowman baseball pack and pulled a Mickey Mantle card. The card was graded PSA 9! To this day, only nine of those cards have been graded a PSA 9 and only 3 a PSA 10. You can see that incredible moment HERE.
