1966 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 8 Bought AND Sold Seconds Later in $9K Deal

From the Just Collect Booth at the National, Mickey Found a Home in Record Time
  • December 05, 2024

A gorgeous 1966 Topps Mickey Mantle card graded PSA 8 was purchased - and sold - by Just Collect in a matter of seconds! Watch what happens live from the National Sports Collectors Convention, where anything is possible.

A rare, high-grade Mickey Mantle card as part of a vintage card collection was brought to our booth at the National Sports Collectors Convention for a free appraisal and possible purchase. Not only did we proudly purchase each card, including the Mickey Mantle, we SOLD the Mantle mere seconds later right at our booth! We made one collector's day by purchasing their cards and another collector's day by selling them their dream card.

THE COLLECTION

When Jason approached our booth at the National, our owner, Leighton, thought he recognized the young man, but wasn't quite sure from where. Turns out, Jason is a friend of a collector in Upstate, New York, where Leighton traveled to purchase a $100,000 collection of high-grade vintage cards! Jason was with his friend while Leighton reviewed the collection and made the purchase. When it came time to sell is own vintage cards, Jason knew that Just Collect is the place to do it.

While at the National Sports Collectors convention, Jason brought his collection of graded cards which included a 1948 Bowman Stan Musial rookie card. Musial, a three-time MVP, 24-time All-Star, and seven-time batting champion led his Cardinals to three World Series championships en route to his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1969. Leighton has evaluated and purchased many Stan Musical rookie cards like those discovered in the Seiko collection. A 1960 Topps Carl Yastrzemski rookie card graded SGC 8 was in Jason's collection. "Yaz" made 18 All-Star teams with his Red Sox, seven Gold Glove Awards, and won the 1967 Triple Crown by leading the league in batting average, home runs, and RBI. While there are incredible cards in the collection, the star of the show is a 1966 Topps Mickey Mantle card graded PSA 8! The Mick won three MVP awards, seven World Series championships for the Yankees, and a Triple Crown of his own in 1956. Mantle cards are the most desirable in our hobby! We are always buying Mickey Mantle cards, especially his 1952 Topps rookie card. Did you know we once purchased a Mickey Mantle rookie card that was stored with jars of pickles? Just a $30,000 baseball card stored with pickles, nothing to see here, right? Checking the PSA population report for the 1966 Topps Mantle, 14,999 cards have been graded by PSA and just 90 have ever been graded higher than this PSA 8! It is rare to find such high-grade, well-conditioned vintage cards. In 1966, nobody thought twice about how to safely store and protect cards. Chances are, you or your parents put those baseball cards into bike spokes! This card from 1966 came out of the wax pack 58 years ago. From trading, to flipping, to avoiding mom throwing out the cards in the weekly garbage, this Mantle survived and is in immaculate condition! Remember, condition is VERY important when determining the value of your cards; even a change in just one grade on the scale from 1 to 10 could change the value of your card by thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars. Currently, a 1966 Topps PSA 7 Mickey Mantle card is only valued at HALF of what a 1966 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 8 is valued at!

You can see the meeting, collection, and purchase of Jason's collection with the 1966 Topps Mantle PSA 8 in this below. Wait until you see what happens NEXT!

Here are the cards in Jason's collection:

Each card is wonderful, but Mickey steals the show! You can see Mantle, bat in-hand, looking like he may be taking practice swings before a game. Notice Mantle has no batting gloves or helmet. Until 1971, baseball players were not mandated to wear helmets during a game! Imagine that today. That 1966 Topps card is nicely centered and sports four sharp corners, looking as it were fresh from a pack.

THE APPRAISAL

After providing Jason the free appraisal, Leighton made a fair offer that Jason accepted. Leighton then paid Jason in cash right at the booth! When you sell your collection to Just Collect, we pay you how you want to be paid - cash, company check, or wire transfer! We offer MANY ways to appraise your collection. If you're unable to attend a show or convention like Jason did, we have our store in Summit, NJ. that you're invited to. You could ship your collection to us with our fully-insured, two-day FedEx account. We also travel for large collections! Read below to see how you can contact us today!

THE SALE

Record time and day made! A gentleman named Matt was at the Just Collect booth in search of a high-grade 1966 Topps Mickey Mantle card. You can see Matt in the video with Jason and Leighton! What timing. Just Collect both buys and sells vintage cards, and Matt knew he'd find his desired treasures at Just Collect. Little did any of us know, Matt had his eyes set on the very same card we just purchased from Matt. We sold that card to Matt before Jason walked away from the booth! Amazing timing. We're proud to make each collector's day.
