2021-22 Topps Finest Basketball Cards Return After a Decade Away

Topps Returns to the NBA Market After Ten years
  • May 10, 2022

After a decade away from releasing a basketball product, Topps is back in the hoops market with a brand new FINEST release. The checklist is mostly retired players and legends while the look is taking us back to a time when Instagram was brand new and Tik Tok was a song instead of an app.

Topps has provided us with some legendary basketball cards over the years. The 1980-81 included Larry Bird and Magic Johnson rookie cards on the same card. When Kobe Bryant was a rookie, Topps included him in their 1996-97 Finest release. In 2003-04 LeBron James rookie cards came out of Topps packs. Recently in 2009-10 Steph Curry rookie cards awaited our hands. In 2009, Panini purchased the license to print NBA cards which shelved Topps basketball releases - until now! After many years away from the hobby, Topps has returned with not just any product; FINEST is back.

2021-22 TOPPS FINEST BASKETBALL CARDS

New call-to-action

Topps' last basketball was in 2009-10, but it's been even longer since they've had a FINEST release. The last Finest product came in 2007-08. A pre-sale occurred on April 26th and 2021-22 Finest is HERE. Topps still does not have the NBA license so the cards cannot feature team logos so the company got creative: (mostly) retired players in street clothes. The design is actually taking us back to the 1990's or a draft-day cards with rookies in their suits instead of uniforms.

The checklist is relatively small; only 60 cards are in the set. Allen Iverson, Shaq, Vince Carter, Dirk Nowitzki, and more are in the set. Refractors (1 in 6 packs) and Atomic Refractors (1 in 24 packs) are in the release. Each box has 18 packs with 4 cards per pack and 1 auto per box.

Kobe-1

We're excited to see Finest back! Here is to hoping Topps keeps the iconic release coming. The 1996 Kobe Bryant Finest (pictured above) is one of the most iconic modern cards. If you have Kobe Bryant Finest rookie cards, we are buying high-graded copies of this card and would love to hear from you.
