Written by Monte Jennings | Jul 11, 2025 3:25:59 PM

TWENTY Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays cards plus a RARE T213 Ty Cobb! This $32,000 collection is filled with vintage baseball cards of icons, and Just Collect is proud to have purchased these treasures from a father-son collecting duo.

When a gentleman reached out for a we always offer at Just Collect, we had to make sure our math was correct. Twenty - yes, 20, Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays cards! As we reviewed the cards, other legendary names including Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, and Roberto Clemente gave us a gleam in our eye. Then we saw the T213 Ty Cobb!

THE COLLECTION

Thomas began collecting cards in 1979. Enjoying the hobby as a kid, Thomas fell in love with the imagery. When college came calling in the late 1980's, Thomas sold his childhood card collection. Thomas has a son and when the young lad turned 5 in 2006, Thomas fell in love with baseball cards again. His son loved baseball and was passionate about baseball cards, just like dad was. At the breakfast table, the two collectors could be found putting complete sets together. For several years, Thomas would buy cards in auctions, and his son would go to bed asking dad if he had bid on cards. The father and son bonded as they shared in the joy when those cards arrived in the mail. Each card in their collection was carefully selected; the focus was on great players of the game.

In the first photo below, you see a RARE T213 Ty Cobb! When you think about great players of the game, Cobb is one of the first names you put on a list. When he retired, Cobb was the all-time leader in hits (4,189), batting average (.366), and was second in stolen bases (897). Despite not playing a game since 1928, almost a hundred years ago, Cobb is still among all-time leaders in these categories! The T213 card is very similar to the 1909-11 T206 set. Many years ago, baseball cards like this Ty Cobb were inserted into packs of tobacco and cigarettes to promote the products. The T213 Coupon Baseball set was released between 1910 and 1919. These are regional cards made near New Orleans and totals 323 cards. The set was released in three series. The third series is where this Ty Cobb originates from. Measuring 1-3/8" x 2-9/16", 70 cards makeup the third series. This Cobb has been graded by PSA. While condition is VERY important in determining the value of your cards, don't let the grade of "3" out of "10" fool you; these cards are rare in any condition. To date, only 10 of these cards have ever been graded by PSA.

TEN Mickey Mantle cards are in the second photo! The three-time MVP, seven-time World Series champion, has a run of cards including a 1953 Topps to his final card, the 1969 Topps release. There is also a 1955 Bowman card which you can see in the top row. Did you know we once pulled a pack-fresh Mantle right out of a sealed 1955 bowman pack? You can see us make history HERE.

TEN Willie Mays cards follows the Mick! From the his 1952 Topps rookie card to 1959 Topps. Regarded as the best all-around player, Mays did it all. The Say Hey Kid belted 660 home runs, collected 3,293 hits, earned 12 Gold Glove awards, and made 24 All-Star teams. While the 1952 Topps card is the most valuable of the group, the 1954 Bowman that leads off the second row is graded PSA 7! Only 130 1954 Bowman Mays cards have been graded higher than this PSA 7.

The final photo is filled with other legendary players. A pair of Hank Aaron cards from the 1956 Topps and 1957 Topps sets. You know The Hammer had 755 career home runs, but did you know that if Aaron never hit a single home run, he'd still have over 3,000 career hits? Aaron retired with 3,771 hits! 1909-11 T206 cards of Tris Speaker and Christy Mathewson, a 1951 Bowman Ted Williams, 1960 Topps cards of Sandy Koufax and Roberto Clemente, and a 1962 Topps Clemente round out this beautiful collection.

APPRAISAL AND PURCHASE

As Thomas' son grew older, he continued the love of baseball and is now a Division 1 college baseball player! Looking at their collection, Thomas felt it was time to let someone else enjoy the cards and chose Just Collect to sell the collection to. The retail stores are focused on selling modern products and simply don't have the time or the knowledge to carefully evaluate vintage collections. This is where we are happy to help you! We have purchased thousands upon thousands of collections and bought and sold over 50 MILLION dollars in cards

After providing Thomas a FREE appraisal, we made Thomas a fair offer that he accepted. When it comes to vintage, especially graded Hall of Famers, we are paying record prices! We then paid Thomas how he wanted to be paid. When you choose Just Collect to sell your collection to, we can pay you in cash, company check, or wire transfer.

Thomas told us that he hopes the next owner of these cards reconnects with their own personal memories of collecting as a kid. Our owner, Leighton, will make certain this happens! Leighton has a son, Crosby, who is now getting into baseball! Crosby just wrapped up his Little League season, and has even joined Leighton to on a trip to Boston to purchase a collection of T206 cards
