24 MILLLION DOLLARS! That is the price tag for the jersey Babe Ruth wore when he hit his famous "called shot" home run in the 1932 World Series. See photos of this iconic piece of history, and learn how you can sell your collection to Just Collect.
We still can't believe the total - 24 million dollars. In 1932, the New York Yankees played the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. In game 3, Babe Ruth and the Yankees were at Wrigley Field in Chicago when The Sultan of Swat stepped up top the plate in the fifth inning with the score tied at four. Ruth then pointed two fingers that you can see on video. This is where the legend was born! On the very next pitch, Ruth mashed a home run to center field. Did Ruth just call his shot? Was Babe Ruth pointing to center field and then belted a home run right where he pointed?! Some fans argue that Ruth was holding up two fingers to signal he had two strikes on him. Other people will state Ruth was pointing to the Cubs' dugout. Only Babe Ruth knew the truth, and he took it to the grave. The legend, however, lives on. Recently, the jersey that Ruth wore was sold at auction for an astonishing 24 million dollars at Heritage Auctions.
While at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland last month, we had the opportunity to see the jersey!
You can see the road jersey style with New York in block lettering on the front and the legendary #3 that Ruth wore on the back. Thank you to Heritage Auctions for allowing us to view this piece!
Just Collect is always buying collections just like this Ruth jersey. Just Collect proudly purchased a baseball signed by both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig that belonged to their Yankees teammate that you can read about HERE.
We also discovered and purchased a huge college of 22 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig 1930's Goudey cards you can see HERE.
