Take a look at some recent auctions and you might be surprised to see the closing prices of some of the autographed vintage sports card singles and sets.  Most of the time, we're talking baseball cards here, but this week we've got a huge treat for hockey card collectors. Just Collect is offering dozens of autographed 1966 Topps hockey cards this week, all PSA graded and authenticated.   Even if you're not a hard core hockey collector, these might be of interest.  They're just plain cool.

The singles are great but if you think bigger, this is a tremendous start on a full set—or a great collection all by itself if you'd like to take a crack at all 80+ cards.  Bidding is relatively modest at the moment. Our consignor offered these to us and we quickly accepted because the lot also includes multiple signed cards of some hockey Hall of Famers like Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull.  You'll also see legendary names like Mahovlich, Beliveau, Richard, Giacomin and Cournoyer.   Most  of the autographs are in ink, very strong, legible and bold, unlike many of the signed insert cards you see today.  These guys simply cared for their fans and wanted to accommodate requests with a clean-looking autograph. The 1966-67 Topps hockey card set is a very unique looking set—almost like the 1955 Bowman baseball set with its brown borders.   It’s the home of Bobby Orr’s rookie card. The All-Star cards are quite attractive and you’ll find some signed copies among those in our auctions. We're seeing quite a bit of demand lately for vintage hockey memorabilia as fans forget the lockout that dealt the sport a blow last fall and get back into collecting. Compared to football and baseball, the number of hockey cards and hockey autographs that are on the market is small.  There are record prices being set but we feel there is still a lot of value in vintage hockey. If you have autographed cards or other quality hockey memorabilia, Just Collect has a client list that is interested and we encourage you to call us with details.  And of course, watch our auctions for more additions if you're on the buying end of the market.
