When it comes to vintage baseball cards, the T206 set is the king of the mountain.  When considering the players in the set, Ty Cobb is among the most sought after cards.  And when it comes to advertising backs, Old Mill stands among the toughest to locate.  When you combine the three, you have a truly special vintage baseball card. This week, Just Collect is offering the ‘ bat off shoulder’ version of the Georgia Peach carrying that scarce Old Mill Tobacco ad, graded SGC 10.  T206 collectors are scurrying for the chance to put their bid in on this one! In general, the T206 Ty Cobb stands among the hobby’s best cards of all-time because of his status in the game.  He still holds the record for highest career batting average at .367 and owned the all-time hits record until Pete Rose broke it decades later.  A charter member of the Hall of Fame, Cobb is portrayed as he was so often seen—with a bat on his shoulder, anxious to head to the plate.  His famous ‘hands apart’ batting grip is revealed as he stands wearing the dark gray uniform and black cap of the Detroit Tigers and…wait…is that a faint smile across his game face?  A remarkable and memorable portrait, indeed! The Old Mill ad on the back is beautifully centered with no real condition issues; aged as it should be with bold, black front displaying the name of the tobacco product from which it emerged more than a century ago. This particular card comes with provenance, making it all the more special.  A part of the Rudy Strejc Collection, it was part of a fabulous one-owner, original accumulation of vintage baseball cards that recently made its way into the mainstream hobby. While the card shows obvious wear, it remains vibrant and very presentable as a whole.  It will offer the budget-minded collector of T206 cards the opportunity to acquire a true rarity.  Fewer than ten T206 Bat Off Shoulder Cobb cards have ever been graded and authenticated by SGC. In short, our successful bidder will own one of the hobby’s greatest treasures.
