"NO, throw them away and get them out; they’re taking up space." Luckily, Lee convinced her cousin NOT to throw out her husband's baseball card collection. After going through these vintage cards, we discovered legends from the 1950s and 60s including Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and a Bob Gibson rookie card!

Lee was helping her cousin clean out her house after the passing of her cousin's husband when they discovered a vintage card collection. Knowing zero about the cards, the cousin was going to throw out the cards as they were merely taking up space. Lee also didn't know anything about sports cards but figured the collection could have value. Thankfully, the collection was not thrown out!
Cards from the 1959 Topps baseball set shine in this collection. As you view the first photo below, LEGENDS of baseball catch your eyes. With colorful backgrounds and circular-cut portraits, Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente, Sandy Koufax, Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Willie McCovey, and Bob Gibson take center stage. While it's hard for one card to overshadow another here, the key card is #514, Bob Gibson.
Gibson was a 9-time All-Star, won 2 World Series championships, earned 2 Cy Young awards, and was an MVP of the league. In 1968, the phenom ended the season with an ERA of 1.12. To date, no pitcher has equaled such a mark! From Greg Maddux to Clayton Kershaw, a pitcher hasn't seen an ERA of 1.12 or lower in 58 years! The card you see below, #514, is Gibson's rookie card. Mantle won 3 MVP awards and 7 World Series. Aaron hit 755 home runs. Mays may be the best all-around player of all-time, but that is Bob Gibson's FIRST card and highly desirable.
As you make your way to the second photo, you see more cards of legends saved from the garbage! Frank Robinson, Brooks Robinson, Stan Musial, and more. Warren Spahn, Duke Snider, and Bill Mazeroski are just a few of the Hall of Famers in the third photo. The final photo contains stacks of "common" cards, but while the players may not be in the Hall of Fame, the names are still well-known. Bobby Shantz, for example, won the MVP award in 1952. At over 100 years old, Shantz is known to still sign autographs!

Lee called Just Collect and spoke with Kristen to ask if we evaluate vintage cards from the 1950s and 60s. YES! Just Collect always offers a
, and we specialize in vintage cards. Lee wasn't sure what the collection contained, but once Kristen realized Lee was only 25 minutes away from our office in Summit, NJ, they scheduled a quick visit!
When she came, Lee brought the cards in a thin shoebox, and the cards were in Ziplock bags. We don't recommend storing your cards in plastic bags; condition is VERY important when determining the value of your cards. Here are a few tips on how to safely store your cards. Our Vice President, John, began to review the collection, but he only noticed common cards in the first bag of cards he sorted out. Before giving Lee the news that these common cards weren't very valuable, he noticed how Lee smartly separated out the cards! She sorted into bags by team, key cards, managers, all-stars, and 'best of the best." When John opened the "best of the best" bag, there were cards of Mantle, Mays, Aaron, Gibson, and more! Lee had a friend who is a Chicago Cubs fan help her sort out the key cards. As a gift, Lee kindly gave her friend all the vintage Cubs cards from the collection, including Ernie Banks!
Lee left the cards with us at Just Collect for the night, allowing John to properly review and evaluate each card. The retail stores are focused on selling modern products and simply don't have the time or the knowledge to carefully evaluate vintage collections like this. This is where we are happy to help you! We have purchased thousands upon thousands of collections and bought and sold over 50 MILLION dollars in cards.
Lee returned the following day and John made her a fair offer to purchase the entire collection to which she agreed. We then paid Lee how she wanted to be paid! When you sell your collection to Just Collect, we can pay you in cash, company check, or wire transfer. Lee returned to give her cousin several thousand of dollars for cards that were "taking up space." We're glad these cards didn't end up in the trash! Now, vintage cards of iconic players are ready to find new homes to collectors like you. Thank you, Lee!
