Dated Mickey Mantle Autograph Adds Both Provenance and Mystery

Mantle Signed and Dated Letterhead Purchased by Just Collect
  • April 12, 2025

What was Mickey Mantle doing in February 9th, 1991? After purchasing this incredible dated autograph of the iconic slugger, our minds began to wander.

While at the Strongsville, OH. card show buying collections, we purchased this incredible autograph of Mickey Mantle. A big, bold signature stands out on this New York Yankees letterhead, but what really turned our heads was the date!

Provenance with collectables is highly desired. Imagine your grandpa pulling a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card fresh out of a pack from the gas station next door to his house. That card is handed down to your parents, then to you. You can drive by the place the card originated from and know every other; you know that card is genuine! Now, imagine you find a Mantle rookie card at a yard sale. There is no information about the card - you don't know where it came from or even if it is real. Provenance is invaluable!

We know this Mickey Mantle autograph is real without a doubt. First, the autograph is authenticated by PSA, one of the top authenticators in the world. Second, we have purchased and sold hundreds of Mantle autographs here at Just Collect; we're well versed in his signature. What makes this piece extra special is - Mantle dated the autograph! Talk about provenance - we know the exact date this Yankees letterhead took the pen from the three-time MVP and seven-time World Series champion.

February 9th, 1991. There is no question whether this autograph was signed in 1951 or 1995; we know the exact day and year!

You can see the signature below right on the Yankees letterhead along with the date and a nicely-added bonus inscription of Best Wishes.

Remember when we researched where Babe Ruth signed these two autographs? We had so much fun tracking down the location Ruth inked up those index cards, we want to do the same with this Mantle autograph! Was The Mick at Yankee stadium? If so, why? Did Mantle make an appearance at a card show and a collector had this letterhead? Check back here on the Just Collect blog; we hope to tell you WHERE Mantle was on February 9, 1991. Maybe YOU know! If you were at a card show that day and met Mantle, we'd love to hear the story from you! Below is how you can contact us.
