Just Collect Helps Collector Complete 1933 Sport Kings Collection

Visit to Booth at The National Leads Lands Final Card for Collection After Two-Year Search

A collector completed their 1933 Goudey Sport Kings set after finding the final card they needed at the Just Collect booth! A moment two years in the making was fulfilled at the National.

While at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland, OH., Just Collect displayed our huge variety of vintage cards. As one of the biggest vintage card buyers and sellers in the hobby, there are few cards you won't find when we set up a booth for a convention!

A collector named Rob was working on completing a 1933 Goudey Sport Kings set. Officially labeled as the R333 set, each card is 2-3/8" x 2-7/8" and includes stars from all sports. In total, 48 cards were released. Baseball legends such as Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb are in the set. Jim Thorpe and Knute Rockne represent football. Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen, golf icons, can be found in the set. Jack Dempsey has a boxing card, and there are several hockey players. One of the hockey players in the Sport Kings set is card #24, Howie Morenz. Rob had collected 47 of the 48 cards in the set, needing that very Howie Morenz card - one we happened to have at the Just Collect booth, available for sale.

Rob was familiar with the fact Just Collect deals with rare, vintage cards; he is a customer of our sister company, . Rather than us telling you the story, we thought you'd enjoy the moment from the words of Rob himself!

Here is Rob's story about his wonderful interaction with Just Collect:

Upon arriving at the 2024 National, the top card on my "buy/search list" was the aforementioned 1933 Sport Kings - Howie Morenz. I have been looking for this card to add to my 1933 Sport kings collection for well over 2 years. By adding the Morenz to my 1933 collection, I would have all the hockey players included in the set.

I have seen a few examples on eBay and other sources-dealer/auctions over that time, but the examples were extreme in terms of what I was looking for (i.e.. a nice mid/lower grade) - meaning either too low of a card grade or too high. The lower grades always had issues-color/centering/corners were off and not what I was looking for.

Upon visiting the Just Collect booth at the National, there it was - the example I had been seeking in a nice PSA 4 holder. The card presented well both in terms of color and corners for a relatively recent PSA graded example. The card was also listed at a reasonable price. So I started my negotiation for the Morenz card with John from Just Collect. Before I started the discussion, John advised me the bottom line price for a cash purchase. Upon a small trade and mostly a cash transaction, the deal was done! I had my Morenz Sport king. The transaction was virtually effortless on my part in terms of dealing with John or said differently, John made it easy to complete and do business with.

I will always consider Just Collect for my future vintage needs based not only on this transaction, but my experiences with the Just Collect affiliate Vintage Breaks! I had dealt with John before at Vintage Breaks, and he is a class act! I can't say enough good things about John, Leighton and the team at Just Collect and Vintage Breaks.
