What do I do - put him off or keep going? That's what Michael Rubin, CEO of Fanatics, asked our friend, Darrin Rovell, while checking out our booth at the 2023 National Sports Collectors Convention. Rubin was getting a phone call from - Tom Brady. Does Rubin take the call? Would YOU take the call?
The 2023 National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago was amazing. Leighton got to sit down and interview Derek Jeter. Friend of the show and Topps artist, Andy Friedman came by, and then Alex Giaimo from the MLB Network stopped for an interview. We purchased wonderful collections all week.
One funny moment at the show happened when Fanatics CEO, Michael Rubin, came over to view the items in our booth. Rubin was interrupted by a phone call...
Rubin began to view the amazing items that Darren Rovell had on display. We shared a booth with Darren and his one-of-a-kind rarities from a ticket when Michael Jordan first wore his Air Jordans to the vest Matthew Brodderick wore in Ferris Buelller's Day Off.
Rubin's phone rang in the middle of the chat with Darren, he paused and asked "What do I do - put him off or keep going?" Who was calling? TOM BRADY.

When the CEO of Fanatics needs to take a call from Tom Brady, all is good! Take the call, sir. Our booth was there all week; we weren't going anywhere. Rubin came back after the call and to see the rest of the booth along with Jalen Rose. We respected Tom's privacy and didn't ask what the call was about, but we let our imaginations run wild.
Thank you for stopping by our booth, Michael and Jalen! We had a wonderful time meeting you.
Here is a great question for you: if Tom Brady calls you during a conversation - do you pause to take the call? If not, which person would you pause the conversation for? Mike Trout? Michael Jordan? The President? Let us know here on the blog or any of our socials. As a Jets fan, Leighton probably wouldn't have picked up himself - maybe for Jordan.
Michael Rubin was also excited to join the break our sister company, , is offering - spots in a 1967 Topps rack pack!
If you'd to join breaks in vintage packs, you can view all of the offerings Vintage Breaks has here:
We had so much fun at the 2023 National, we already picked our booth numbers for the 2024 show! Hope to see you in Cleveland. Make sure you come say hello at our booth; never know who will show up!
