If you can go back in time, what era of baseball cards would you collect? While many have regrets about missing out on cards that are now extremely valuable, there is one person who did not miss his opportunity to collect one of baseball’s greatest players. That person is Ray, who can be described as very nice and laid back and who recently sold his collection of Detroit Tigers cards to Just Collect.

In a collection that features only Detroit Tigers players, the headliner is the one and only Ty Cobb. 

Thirteen Ty Cobb items in all including 4 variations from the highly desirable T206 set. Three of which have been graded and are as follows:

• T206 Polar Bear Red Portrait PSA 2
• T206 Piedmont Bat Off Shoulder PSA 1
• T206 Piedmont Bat On Shoulder BVG 1.5

Four have been authenticated by SGC, but regardless if they are authenticated or not, they’re all real and they’re spectacular. 

The remainder of the collection is a variety of beautiful cards from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s and include cards from Goudey, Cracker Jack, Fatima Cigarettes and more!

We are happy to have been able to acquire this collection from Ray, but the deal did not happen overnight.

THE STORY

In business, it’s important to make connections with people as we want them to return to us in the future. Such was the case with Ray as he previously sold to us his 1951 Bowman Baseball complete set that included Mickey Mantle’s rookie card. It was during that transaction that we learned of his Tigers collection. Although Ray was not ready to sell at the time, our own Leighton Sheldon expressed interest in the collection and mentioned that he would like to buy his Tigers collection should he choose to sell. 

After some time, and after having a positive experience selling his 1951 Bowman Baseball complete set, Ray was ready to sell us his Tigers collection.

Now a repeat customer, one of many for Just Collect, Ray had trusted us yet again with his collection. Previously a seller on eBay, Ray decided to forego the nearly 13% final value fees in favor of returning to Just Collect. Ray, with impeccable timing, reached out to John, also known as J5, on the night before J5 was heading to Hawaii for his wedding. Ray said he had “an amazing balance of cards left he’d like to sell. All that needed to be done was the categorization of the cards and would call J5 after he packaged the cards for shipping.  

While in Hawaii, J5 received a call from Ray that he was ready to ship. A shipping label was emailed to Ray from the FedEx account with 2-day shipping, fully insured, all covered by Just Collect and another successful transaction was complete. Even with a life changing event in front of him, J5 still gets things done.
