Wawa Gas Stations Now Selling Topps Baseball Cards

Picking up a Wander Franco Rookie and a Large Coffee
  • April 30, 2022

Remember riding your bike to the local gas station to pick up a pack of 1986-87 Fleer basketball or 1987 Topps baseball packs? Wawa gas stations are bringing back those fun memories by teaming up with Topps baseball cards to sell Series 1 packs in their stores.

It seems like just yesterday I'd take my Huffy bike to the Stewart's gas station near my house growing up and buy Topps baseball cards. My local Stewart's had all of the essentials like Hostess Apple Pies, VHS movies to rent, and sports cards. What more could a kid want? After all 36 packs in the Wax Box were sold, the cashier, a neighbor friend of the family, would save me the boxes. In the late 1980's, the Topps boxes had a panel of cards on the bottom to cut out and collect. Looking back, I wish I opted for those 1986-87 Fleer basketball packs to collect Michael Jordan rookie cards like friends did, but I was all about Topps baseball. Those were the days. Wawa gas stations are now taking us back to a time when our mornings were filled with He-Man, Topps cards, and a bowl of Kaboom cereal.

12 gallons of gas, a large coffee, and a Wander Franco rookie card, please. Wawa is bringing back selling Topps baseball cards in gas stations! The company sent this Tweet out to announce the deal. This is a great way to not just take you and I back to a time when we were making our own checklists using graph paper, but a nice way to get kids into collecting. You may not have a local card shop in town, and it's rare to find packs on store shelves these days, so having a gas station with a box on the counter puts those Topps cards right in view for you and the little ones. Maybe now your kids or grandkids will be taking their Hoverboards (unless you still have your Huffy to loan them...) to a gas station and join the hobby you grew up on. Kudos, Wawa!

We know Mike Trout is a New Jersey kid and he does follow Wawa on Twitter. Wonder if Mike Trout has stopped into a Wawa when he's back home to pick a pack of Topps cards up yet.  For the 2022 Topps set, the big rookie card most collectors are chasing is Wander Franco. You should be on the lookout for Short Prints and Variations in those Topps packs; you can read about those potentially valuable inserts here. Wawa locations can be found here. We hope you find great cards the next time you fill up!
