A complete 1955 Topps All-American football set highlights a new collection we purchased at Just Collect today.  While the vintage gridiron is the centerpiece of the collection, there are also MULTIPLE vintage cards of Hall of Fame baseball players included like Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, and Joe DiMaggio! We're proud to have purchased the Testing the Waters Collection.

When a collector named Sam reached out to us on our section on the Just Collect website, we were happy to review his vintage sports card collection. We offer many ways to review and appraise collections that includes meeting you at a convention (we keep a calendar of events we attend here) or scheduling an appointment to review your collection in-person at our New Jersey office. Sam was not able to travel with his collection so we offered an option we use frequently at Just Collect - he could SHIP his collection.

TESTING THE WATERS - HANK AARON ROOKIE CARD

Sam was a little hesitant on shipping his collection to Just Collect office; there were many valuable cards!  We understood the concerns and came up with a great proposal.  First we offered Sam our FedEx account with 2-day shipping, fully insured, all covered by us.  Then we suggested that he ship just a small batch of cards out for us to review. Sam sent his first batch to us that included a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron rookie card. Sam was very happy with out idea and we made a deal to purchase the Hank Aaron.

Being more comfortable shipping his collection to us,  He "tested the waters" with Batch 1 and was ready to ship Batch 2 for another potential sale.

BATCH 2 - 1955 TOPPS ALL-AMERICAN FOOTBALL AND VINTAGE BASEBALL STARS

Sam's second batch arrived and is highlighted by a complete set of 1955 Topps All-American Football. The 1955 set marked the return to the football market for Topps after a four-year hiatus. Cards are large, colorful, and have stunning eye appeal making it a favorite among collectors. Back in '55 you could find single-card penny packs or wax packs with 9 cards that set you back a whole nickel.  Imagine going back in time to 1955 when you actually purchase something for just a penny. Can you even think of anything here in 2021 that actually sells for one penny? We can't! When this gorgeous football set came out, not only were penny packs a thing but right around this time, Sears published a phone number for kids to call Santa Claus.  One misdial later began the official Santa Tracking that NORAD does for us each year.  This 1955 Topps All-American football set is officially older than our ability to track Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, and it's in great condition.

Also included in Sam's second batch of cards are multiple vintage Topps baseball cards from legendary players like Mickey Mantle , Jackie Robinson, Joe DiMaggio and many more!

Here are stars from the 1948 Leaf baseball set - Luke Appling, Warren Spahn, Joe DiMaggio, and Bobby Doerr.  Below are Hall of Famers from the 1953 Topps baseball set - Satchel Paige, Mickey Mantle, and Jackie Robinson.

Including in the batch were stacks of common players from the 1952 Topps baseball set , 1953 Topps baseball set, and 1954 Topps baseball set.

Despite being deemed "commons" there is very much still value in vintage cards from the 1950's.  For stacks of commons like Sam's, we group them together and take the average condition to determine the market value.

After evaluating the entire second batch of cards we made Sam a fair offer that he accepted. We then paid Sam how he wanted to be paid! When we agree to purchase your collection, we'll pay you how you'd like to be paid - cash, check, money order, or we'll personally call NORAD for you and find out where Santa is right now if that's your preferred payment 😀
