1.2 million dollars. If you think about spending a million dollars on one thing, what would it be? Well, someone has spent over a million dollars on a PSA 10 1979 Topps Wayne Gretzky rookie card. The gigantic price tag is a result of the card's rarity. Out of a total of over 7,000 Topps Gretzky rookies that have been graded by PSA, only 2 have received the distinction of a gem mint 10 grading. You can check out the population report here. In comparison, The Great One's O-Pee-Chee rookie card also has 2 that are graded a PSA 10.

Topps vs O-Pee-Chee

Wayne Gretzky has 2 rookie cards and Just Collect is always buying both versions. If you take a quick glance at a Topps Gretzky rookie and O-Pee-Chee Gretzky rookie they will appear to be identical, but the difference comes from where they were produced. 

The Topps version was produced in America while O-Pee-Chee was produced in Canada. The fronts are identical with the classic blue border, but the differences can be seen on the back of the cards. Turn the card over on the O-Pee-Chee and you will see English and French text on the back. O-Pee-Chee had a larger set as well with 396 cards. Topps had 264 cards fill the set, but as both have Gretzky's rookie, both also have Gordie Howe's final issue, too!

If you choose to mail your cards for an appraisal, we will evaluate your cards for FREE still. If you choose not to sell the cards, we'll ship them back with shipping fees paid by us!  We can offer our FedEx account with 2-day shipping, fully insured, all covered by us.
