This week we are offering for your consideration and inspection a PSA 8 NM/MT 1951 Bowman rookie card of Yankees legend and Baseball Hall of Famer Whitey Ford. Similar to the Andy Pafko card from the 1952 Topps Baseball issue, the Ford card was the first card in the set and was subject to the wear and tear of being at the front of the set and being exposed to the elements and the inevitable rubber-band. While the card is not uncommon, like the Pafko, finding examples that have stood the test of time and present in higher grade typically proves difficult.
This exemplar is not the typical, run of the mill Bowman. Oh, and did we mention that it is also Whitey’s rookie card?!? Highlighted by stunningly incredible centering, the borders are virtually 50/50 left to right AND top to bottom and beautifully frame the young, smiling face of the Chairman of the Board. Strikingly bold colors and impeccable registration saturate the obverse image and are one of the main characteristics that have led to the wide appeal of the Bowman issues. Four strong and square corners complete one of the nicest examples we've ever had the pleasure to witness. The reverse is no less stellar and features a clean, stain-free back with bold text and phenomenal centering. This exemplar may be one of the best examples of this high demand card to ever reside in a PSA 8 holder. We know we’d be hard pressed to find another that even compares. We'll leave that for the bidders to decide!
