Last summer, it seemed as though the every time we turned around, there was a 1986 Fleer Basketball card setting a record sales price. The Michael Jordan rookie card had nearly doubled in price from the year before with PSA 9 examples selling for over $6000 when they had been just over $3000 the previous summer! Even the PSA 8 Jordans had pushed the $2000 level before settling back down.

There was a spike across the board last summer on most major vintage rookie cards, but the largest demand seemed to be for anything graded PSA 10 the 1986 Fleer Basketball Set. Even nondescript players like Johnny Moore in PSA 10 that sold before the 2016 summer run-up for around $5000, ballooned to $15,000.00 before coming back down to the prices before the run-up.

The demand for this issue has reached frenzied pitch before and seems to be very cyclical, so we wouldn't be surprised to see interest and demand cause another increase in prices. Even after the run-up last summer, and the subsequent return, the values didn't really change much if you remove the spike. With rookie cards of some of the greatest in the game, players like Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Chris Mullin, Dominique Wilkins, Joe Dumars, Patrick Ewing, Clyde Drexler, Isiah Thomas, Karl Malone, Ralph Sampson, James Worthy and veteran stars like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, George Gervin, Magic Johnson, Julius Erving, Moses Malone and Robert Parrish, this set will always hold a little something for almost everyone.
