Collectors Universe, the parent company of PSA, has been sold for 700 million dollars! You may recognize the new owner as he's an avid card collector in our hobby.
Nat Turner, sports card collector, now owns the company that he's submitted many of his personal cards to for grading: PSA.
D1 Capital Partners L.P., and Cohen Private Ventures, LLC and Turner combined to buy Collectors Universe, the parent company of PSA, for 700 million bucks.
THE NEW OWNER:
Nat Turner, 34, is an a tech entrepreneur known for selling Flatiron Health, his software company that focuses on data science, for 2 billion dollars. Turner is a big sports card collector, too, loving high-end basketball cards.
WHAT DOES THE SALE OF PSA MEAN TO YOU?
The major part is irrelevant: PSA will no longer be a publicly-owned company but rather a private entity.
Hopefully a collector like Turner will help clear out the backlog of cards. You and I both have been waiting months and months for some of or bulk orders of cards to be graded. Turner was quoted as saying "We are committed to bringing the resources and expertise necessary to expand the Company’s operational capacity and technological capabilities."
With any luck, more resources for PSA and an owner that not only enjoys the hobby but actually gets his cards graded at PSA will help speed up the process for us to see our orders come back in more reasonable wait-times! New resources and expertise that Turner will bring could be great news. As Turner submits his personal cards to PSA, he should know the process that you and I see daily and could offer great insight to his new company as a former customer!
