- Vintage Breaks
Our sister company, Vintage Breaks, opened a sealed pack of 1959 Topps football cards and the contents were stunning! Watch the video to see pack-fresh key rookie cards and stars.
1959 Topps football cards were released into two series. Each series has 88 cards. The pack that our sister company, , offered card breaks in was a Series 2 pack which held cards numbered 89 (Jim Mutscheller) - 176 (Tom Tracy). In between there were key rookie cards and Hall of Fame players we hoped to see get pulled. Before cracking the sealed pack Vintage Breaks threw a penny in the wishing well and asked for at least one hit. Then this happened:
In spot 3 came Y.A. Tittle, card number 130! Tittle was the NFL MVP in 1963, made 7 Pro Bowl teams, and led the league in passing touch downs three times. Tittle could sling the ball! Love the two-bar helmet and the loose chin strap on his card you can see on the far right.
How does Vintage Breaks follow pulling a Hall of Fame player in the pack? Card #161 in spot 7 from the 12-card pack was is the team card for the Cleveland Browns! The card to your far left with the all of the Browns players posing and the green oval background includes legendary running back, Jim Brown! The 1959 Topps set is where you'll find Jim Brown's rookie card (card #10) so this team card is special. Let's take a closer look - middle left #32 you'll find the man who owns 3 MVP awards in a career that includes 9 rushing titles.
In the very next spot is Alex Karras! Does the name on card #103 sound familiar? The Detroit Lions great was a four-time Pro Bowler after a great college career where he was a two-time, First Team All-American player at Iowa. Karras is in the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame. If you don't recognize Karras from the gridiron, perhaps you watched Webster from 1983-1987 where he played George Papadopolis! Karras is the third card in with the purple background, in position, ready to lay out a QB.
The very next card in spot 10 was card #140, Bobby Mitchell! A threat ALL OVER the field, Mitchell scored 65 receiving touch downs, 18 rushing touch downs, and another 8 touch downs as a returner on his way to the Hall of Fame. Mitchell worked the front office after retiring, all the way up to assistant general manager for Washington. You can see Mitchell as the second card, green back, and posing with the football like he's about to rip off a big run.
What an amazing pack. Two key rookies, a rookie team card, and a HOF QB! These cards have not seen the light of day in 63 years. The cards you see here were put in the pack back when the NFL title game was played at Yankee Stadium, American Express credit cards were just invented, Elvis ruled radio, and gas set you back thirty cents per gallon. Congrats on pulling these pack-fresh cards from 1959, Adam, JJ, and Michael!

We keep a LIST of the card shows we'll be attending. Come stop by the Just Collect table and chat.
If you have a valuable collection and want us to come to you, we'll hop on the next plane out. We recently took a trip to California to purchase a collection that included three Jackie Robinson 1948 Leaf rookie cards that you can read about here.
