A vintage football card trade at the Just Collect booths during the National Sports Collectors Convention leads to PSA-graded 1935 National Chicle cards!

1935 NATIONAL CHICLE FOOTBALL TRADE

The National Sports Collectors Convention was AMAZING! Just Collect purchased collections including a 1917-20 M101 Babe Ruth. We sold a rare 1909 E90-1 Shoeless Joe Jackson. To celebrate our 20th year in business, we also gave away $100 cash every hour - every day - of the show. We also made a TRADE for vintage football cards!

A gentleman came to our booths after he saw a 1952 Bowman Small Tom Landry card graded PSA 6 in our eBay store. Landry better known as the former Dallas Cowboys head coach who led the team to victories in Super Bowl VI and XII. Before roaming the sidelines, Landry was a great punter as a player for the New York Giants. Landry led the NFL in punting yards twice (1952 and 1955), and was a Pro Bowler in 1954. Landry is found in the 1952 Bowman "Small" set. There is a Bowman Large set, too. The Small set cards measure 2-1/16" x 3-1/8" compared to the Large cards which measure 2-1/2" x 3-3/4". Wanting to make a trade, the gentleman brought PSA graded cards from the 1935 National Chicle set.

These 1935 cards were the inaugural release. The set consists of just 36 cards, each measuring 2-3/8" x 2-7/8". Artist renderings show some of the early greats of football including Bronko Nagurski and Knute Rockne. One of the coveted cards in the set is Beattie Feathers. As a rookie in 1934, Feathers became the first player to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season. The gentleman had the Feathers in a high grade!

Our Vice President, John, searched our booths for the Landry card and was very interested in making the trade; we are always buying or trading for vintage football cards! John evaluated the National Chicle cards, each of which you can see in the photos below.

The Feathers card is graded PSA 7. From left to right in the first photo are Ken Strong, Turk Edwards, and the Feathers. Turk and Strong are both in the Pro and College Football Hall of Fame. The second photo shows more graded cards from the set that were part of the trade. John evaluated each of the National Chicle cards right at our booths, and made the gentleman a strong offer which he accepted.
