Babe Ruth - it's a baseball name that's THE attention-grabber. If you know absolutely nothing about sports, you still know the name Babe Ruth; he is just that legendary. When a card of "The Great Bambino" is offered to us for sale, we are always very interested in buying, even if it's the only card in your collection! Just Collect proudly purchased a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth card in The Lone Wolf Collection.
BABE RUTH
Few, if any, athletes have ever received the recognition that Babe Ruth has garnered. If you have never seen a single baseball game or held a baseball card your life, chances are that you still know the name BABE RUTH. "The Great Bambino" redefined how the game was played with the way he put the ball over the fences. Ruth was such a home run hitter, in 1920, he hit more home runs himself (54) than almost every other entire team in baseball! Only the Philadelphia Phillies as a team, all players combined, managed to hit more than 54 home runs. Look at these incredible highlights from Babe Ruth:
- Played from 1914-1935
- Was a Pitcher AND a Hitter early in his career
- Won 24 games as a Pitcher in in 1917. The last time a pitcher won 24 games was in 2011; 10 years ago.
- Hit 60 home runs in 1927; a record that stood until 1961
- Has 714 career home runs; a record that stood until 1974 (and still ranks third all-time)
- Career batting average of .342 (still ranks eighth all-time)
- 1,983 RBI (still ranks 6th all-time)
- Won 7 World Series championships
Ruth did it on the mound and in the batter's box, and many of his career numbers still rank high on each list despite not playing a game in 86 years!
THE LONE WOLF COLLECTION
A woman from Alabama contacted us through the FREE APPRAISAL section our Just Collect website. The card belonged to her ex-husband who's mother bought the cards years prior for her two boys. The ex-husband and former brother-in-law each picked up a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth card while in Cincinnati. The owner mentioned her former brother in-law sold his Ruth card many years ago so she was certain her Ruth was authentic.
One of our vintage card specialists, John, requested a few scanned images of the Babe Ruth card to make sure the card is genuine. We always want to ensure authenticity so we can make a fair offer for your collection. When the images were received, John saw a lovely 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth card number #53.
After reviewing the scans, John and I needed to take a closer look at the Babe Ruth card and the only way to do so was in-person. I offered my FedEx account with 2-day shipping, fully insured, all covered by me for the owner to SHIP the card to our Just Collect office here in New Jersey.
Once the Babe Ruth card arrived safely, I was able to review the card personally and knew it was authentic. I offered to have the card graded by PSA, one of the leaders in the grading industry. PSA gave the Babe Ruth card a grade of 1:
With authenticity confirmed, we made an offer the owner was happy with. If you and I make a deal, I can pay you in cash, check, money order, I'll wash your car, mow your lawn, take you out for a steak dinner... - you name your payment, and I'll make it happen!
The Lone Wolf collection is a wonderful example that no collection is too big or too small for me to be interested in buying. If you have just one Babe Ruth card, a single Mickey Mantle or just a solo Michael Jordan rookie card you're interested in selling, you can contact me any time!
WE ARE ALWAYS BUYING
Just Collect is always buying vintage sports and non-sports cards from 1879 to 1979 as well as select modern cards. Your collection doesn't have to be all vintage either! I recently bought a graded card collection of more modern cards that was filled with rookie cards of Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, and even Hulk Hogan that you can see here.
If you have a collection that you are considering selling, contact me today to discuss or get our industry-leading purchase offer. If you have a collection that you want appraised, please contact us and I would be happy to discuss your collection and help you understand the real cash value of your collection in the current marketplace. Check out the Just Collect buy list blog here.
OUR BUYING PHILOSOPHY
I've run into a wide range of people and collections over the last 25 years. Although Just Collect is known for buying vintage sports cards and especially vintage baseball cards, I am also extremely interested in buying non-sports cards, too!
Every collection and every collector is different and I treat EVERY collection with the respect and attention that we show for our own collections. I understand that many have put their heart and souls into building their collections. So when you're ready to sell, I understand the feelings that you're going through and will work with you to help you reach a decision that is a WIN/WIN, because if you're not happy, I'm not happy.

Recently I met a father-son duo that drove eight hours from Virginia to meet me to sell a Michael Jordan rookie card stored in Tupperware since 1986 - great read here.

I keep a LIST of card shows we'll be attending to buy and sell and will certainly be at The National.
