Last month, Collectors CEO Nat Turner announced on Twitter that PSA was planning to begin grading 1984 Star Basketball cards. Now, it’s official. Orders can now be placed at PSA for the 1984 Star Basketball set.

It’s a reversal of policy for PSA who have not graded Star cards for 30 years due to issues concerning the legitimacy of cards that surfaced after the company lost its license. Keep in mind, PSA is starting by only grading Star cards from the 1984 set. While PSA will not grade sealed team bags to start, they are planning to do so in the future as well as Star sets of other years.

This is sure to increase the value of 1984 Star cards, most notably the Michael Jordan rookie card, because up until now, have only been graded by Beckett Grading Services. The 1984 Star Jordan rookie is already on the list of Best & Most Valuable Michael Jordan Cards, but now that PSA is back in the game, the value can only go higher. 

There has long been a debate between the 1984 Star and 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan cards about which of those is his true rookie card. The majority of collectors believe it is the 1986 Fleer, but if you ask Nat Turner, the 1984 Star Basketball set features “MJ’s true rookie card”. Could Turner’s declaration change the mind of hobby enthusiasts? Only time will tell, but for now, it has made the topic more interesting.

If you choose to mail your cards for an appraisal, we will evaluate your cards for FREE still. If you choose not to sell the cards, we'll ship them back shipping fees paid by us!  We can offer our FedEx account with 2-day shipping, fully insured, all covered by us.
