FAVORITE STORY - THE FANS THAT RUSHED THE FIELD ON 715
On my recent trip to the Hall of Fame, I learned that after Aaron hit home run number 715 to pass Babe Ruth on April 8th, 1974, the two fans that greeted Hank on his historic trip around the bases still exchanged Christmas Cards with him each year afterwards. Naturally Cliff Courtenay and Britt Gaston were both fined and spent a few hours in jail; do NOT do what they did. Hank forgave the fans and became cordial. Imagine - getting a Christmas card every year from Hank Aaron.
OUR FAVORITE AARON COLLECTION
Usually when we receive inquiries about buying or appraising collections, it is from a person that inherited vintage cards from perhaps their parents or grandparents. A call came through one day from a gentleman that that needed an appraisal on a complete 1954 Topps set from their son! The ol' switcharoo. With loved the fact that a son bought his dad a set! Hank Aaron's rookie card is in that very 1954 Topps set. A son and father sharing cards never gets old, and dig that Hank's rookie was involved. Read that full story here.
Our sister company, Vintage Breaks, has a prize up right now on their site of a 1955 Bowman set right here. Click Prize Detail on the Bonus page and you'll see how you could win the whole set of cards with a second-year Hank Aaron, too.
If you want to share a Hank Aaron story of your own, please do so; we'd love to hear or read about it.
