This week, we are offering an SGC 60 EX 5 graded Ty Cobb E121 featuring the Georgia Peach in his inaugural season as player/manager of the Detroit Tigers.  Cobb excelled during the ’21 season, clubbing double-digit homeruns for the 1 st time in his career while driving home 101 runs and batting a robust .389! This beautiful example presents as a strikingly high end example that would not be out of place in an EX/MT holder.  Exceptional centering, clear registration, stunning focus and a clean and stain free obverse are just some of the quality characteristics of this timeless piece of history. American Caramel Company, formed by the 1888 merger of candy manufacturers Breisch-Hine Company of Philadelphia and P. C. Wiest Company of York, PA, eventually acquired Hershey’s Lancaster Caramel Company in 1900 and soon began producing baseball cards as premiums for their confectionary products.  American Caramel was extremely successful with their early baseball premiums, including the colorful E90 Series.  One of their later successes was achieved using actual photographic images on the larger formatted (2” x 3 3/16”) E121 issue released in 1921 which included 80 cards featuring many of the greats depicted in the T206 issue from a decade earlier as well as many from the next generation of baseball heroes.
