Offered this week on auction is a stunningly sharp example of one of the true Holy Grails for most baseball card collections . . . 1952 Topps High Number #311 Mickey Mantle conservatively graded VG/EX by Sportscard Guaranty. This beautiful example displays strong EX/MT condition corners, the obverse image of the young "Commerce Comet" stands out against the soft blue background. Sharp clarity and strong registration identify this exemplar as a high end example. The borders are clean and white with the only detriment being the centering is shifted a little low and to the left. The reverse is clean and stain-free with strong red and black inking. This example features the stitches facing the left on the baseball variation. This is truly one remarkable example of the Mick's rookie card! The demand for Mantle cards remains higher than ever and with high end examples of his earliest cards continuing to rise in price, some out of the reach of average collectors, this one remains an outstanding value and probably a wise buy for the long haul as more collectors look to buy.
