Unmarked, higher grade checklist cards from pre-1970s football card issues are tough to find. When you combine the propensity for kids to mark them with their general age and lack of real popularity during the time of issue, you’ve got an obstruction on your way to a nice complete set. When the checklist is a short print and has variations, you’ve got a monumental challenge. This week, we’re giving collectors of 1957 Topps football cards the opportunity to meet that challenge! Just Collect is offering an outstanding, unmarked PSA graded 6.5 1957 Topps checklist in our weekly auctions—and it’s the tougher of the two variations. In ’57 Topps promoted its Bazooka brand on the backs of some of the checklists and its Twin Blony product on others. The Twin Blony brand is harder to find and that’s the one we have up for bid. For a 6.5, this checklist is a dandy. Unmarked but also nicely centered. Collectors have taken notice. Just four days into the bidding, the card had already rocketed past the $1,000 mark. We know that sounds like a lot, but if you’ve tried to find a decent ’57 Topps football checklist, you understand it’s not really that surprising. It’s a card that some collectors don’t even attempt to find, calling their set complete without it. We understand. Still, it was issued in packs and isn’t a mail-in redemption card or anything of the sort. Collectors who want a complete representation of that year’s cards will look for one. The 1957 Topps set is among the most sought after of all vintage football card sets for its unique design and its incredible array of Hall of Fame rookies. Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr and Paul Hornung all have their first cards in the set. As desirable as they are, though, they’re a lot easier to find than this checklist!
