It was the Spring of 1980 and the Pittsburgh “We Are Family” Pirates were reigning World Series Champions and Ronald Reagan was still an underdog for the Republican Presidential nomination.  Unbeknownst to collectors, this would be the last year that they would only find Topps baseball cards on the shelves of the local five and Dime.  The winds of change were beginning to swirl in the baseball card manufacturing world as Donruss and Fleer were on the verge of obtaining licenses to begin producing cards in 1981. The 1980 issue featured all of the stars of the day from aging veterans Willie “Pops” Stargell and Carl Yastrzemski to the best in the game stars like George Brett, Mike Schmidt and Reggie Jackson to the newest kids on the block such as Ozzie Smith, Eddie Murray and the rookie card of Rickey Henderson. The 1980 Topps wax boxes contained 36 packs and yielded 15 cards per pack with a retail price of $0.25 per pack.  Sealed packs in nice condition typically sell for about $15.00 per pack or about twice what a full box would've cost in 1980. We are always buying baseball cards and unopened packs from 1879-1979.  For a free baseball card appraisal go to  www.justcollect.com.  You can also email  info@justcollect.com or call  732-828-2261 to sell your baseball cards today.
