Massive Baseball Card Collection Purchased

Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig and More!

Just Collect, the nation’s top buyer of vintage sports cards, struck gold again this past week, buying a vintage baseball card collection worth tens of thousands of dollars - full of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Lou Gehrig cards. The deal closed late Wednesday evening, just 2 days after the seller made initial contact with the company.

“I wanted to sell my baseball card collection and had experience buying from Just Collect in the past. I trusted them and knew I would get a fair offer.”   Comprised of an experienced and knowledgeable staff, Just Collect was able to value the collection of over 15,000 cards, and make an acceptable offer to the seller. Even though the majority of the collection was mid to low grade, it is filled with stars and hall of famers, making it extremely valuable, and most importantly, desirable to the entire hobby community. What an impressive collection it was, holding over 5,000 vintage era cards - ranging from complete sets of pre-war tobacco cards, to Mantle and Mays rookies, to complete sets from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

For Just Collect, one of the main draws to this collection was the four complete sets of E120 & E121 American Caramel cards, which are comprised of a half dozen or so Ruths and Cobbs. These sets date back to the early 1920’s, and have stood the test of time withholding their value. As collectors have become more familiar and educated about this set, the greater the demand has been over recent years. Just Collect plans to break up the sets, and sell the baseball cards individually throughout the month of March.

What else was so good about this collection? How about a 1951 Mickey Mantle Rookie Card and a 1915 Cracker Jack "Shoeless" Joe Jackson card. These two cards, in particular, caught the eye of Leighton Sheldon and his team of vintage card specialists. These are some of the greatest cards known to the hobby, and will have collector’s from all over the world diving deep into their pockets trying to add one of these to their collection. Luckily, Just Collect is proud to offer both of these cards this week, via their eBay auctions. The 10-day auctions started Thursday night, and are expected to draw quite the attention from bidders. The Mickey Mantle rookie card, graded SGC 30, presents much nicer than its assigned grade, offering vivid colors and better-than-average centering - which makes for great eye appeal – sure to have collectors in a frenzy.  The 1915 "Shoeless" Joe Jackson Cracker Jack card, on the other hand, won’t be sought after for its pristine appearance, but rather for it’s rarity – as only a handful are ever made available to the public in a given year.

One of the best cards in the American Caramel sets that Just Collect purchased is the 1922 E120 Babe Ruth. This card will draw interest from all kinds of hobbyists – Ruth collectors, pre-war collectors, Yankee collectors, and Hall of Fame collectors. The card is so rare, that only 2 examples have been made available to the public (via auction) since 2011. This PSA 3 example, which Just Collect will auction off in the very near future, is a beauty.  The card features Ruth donning the famous Yankee pinstripes. The card presents nicely with incredible clarity and registration, with no visible paper loss.

Another focal point of this collection was the run of the early 1930s Goudey and Play Ball sets – featuring some of baseball’s immortals – Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Jimmy Foxx. Even in mid-grade, these are still some of the hobby’s most sought after cards.  Just Collect will be auctioning off two of these cards from the 1933 Goudey set – the #144 Babe Ruth in a SGC 30 & the #160 Lou Gehrig in a PSA 3. Both cards present beautifully for their vintage age, with vivid coloring, great centering, and those iconic Yankee pinstripes.

If you’re ready to sell your baseball card collection, remember that Just Collect is always buying vintage cards. As one of the most trusted names in the hobby, Just Collect has been a top seller on eBay for nearly a decade and are ready to make a cash offer today!
