Ralphie Collected Vintage Baseball Cards in A Christmas Story

A Red Ryder BB Gun Wasn't All Ralphie Liked
  • December 19, 2020

A Christmas Story, the 1983 classic about Ralphie wanting a Red Ryder BB gun has a few hidden vintage baseball card gems you may have missed!  See what's hanging above Ralphie's bed; they aren't Christmas stockings.

If you've ever turned on TNT any Christmas Eve, you've caught at least one airing of A Christmas Story.  The movie about Ralphie and his quest for a Red Ryder BB Gun is a Holiday classic that airs for 24 hours every December 24th.  In your many viewings, you have have overlooked the fact that Ralphie is a card collector!

This blog is sponsored by JUST COLLECT where we specialize in buying vintage cards, autographs, and collections. What's above Ralphie's bed quickly caught our eyes!  If you have any vintage cards you'd like to sell, we'll tell you shortly how you can reach out to us!  First - the fun.

All credit for the catch goes to Beauty of a Game as they noticed while Ralphie is in his bed, there are three vintage baseball cards right on his head board!

THE CARDS:

  • 1940 Play Ball John Rucker
  • 1909-1911 T206 Ed Reulbach
  • 1909-1911 T206 Jimmy Hart

Checking the value of Ralphie's cards today, the Jimmy Hart recently sold in an SGC 30 (out of a possible 100) for $66. Ed Reulbach sold with the same grade for $47.88. You can own the John Rucker card in a PSA 4 (out of a possible 10) for $43 here.

So Ralphie's cards aren't super valuable, but owning cards that are over 100 years old like the 1909-1911 T206 cards are a great piece of baseball history.  Some of these cards can be worth a great deal of money!  T206 cards are certainly on our BUYING LIST. If you have any vintage cards on this buy list that you'd like to sell, reach out any time!

Plenty of ways to reach out to us:

As the movie is set in the 1940's, the Play Ball makes sense.  Ralphie is too young in the movie to have picked up the T206 cards himself.  Guessing Ralphie's dad, "The Old Man", handed these cards down to Ralphie. Here's one to think about - would you rather get those T206 cards or The Leg Lamp?  🤔

BREAKING PACKS WITH FLICK
