T206 Honus Wagner Stolen from Charlie Sheen Sells for 3.1 Million Dollars

The "All-Star Cafe" Card Has a Wild Story
  • April 16, 2022

Possibly the most famous copy of the most famous baseball card just sold for an astounding 3.1 million dollars! A T206 Honus Wagner that was once stolen from actor Charlie Sheen has a wild story and now a record sales price.

Since 1933, nearly every record-breaking sale of a sports card has been a T206 Honus Wagner. For unknown reasons, Wagner did NOT want his card produced in the T206 Tobacco set back in 1909-1911. Theories are that Wagner did not want children to use the tobacco products his baseball card was being sold in, or he had a compensation dispute with the American Tobacco Company. Either way, printing of the Wanger card came to a stop, leaving the hobby with fewer than 100 cards known to exist. One of the rare T206 Honus Wagner cards sold this month for 3.1 million dollars!

CHARLIE SHEEN'S "ALL-STAR CAFE" T206 HONUS WAGNER

Wagner

Charlie Sheen owned the T206 Wagner that was sold over 3 million dollars this month. Sheen is known to be a big-time sports memorabilia and card collector; he once owned Babe Ruth's 1927 World Series ring. In the 1990's, Sheen invested in a sports-theme restaurant called The All-Star Café located in Times Square in New York City. The actor allowed some of his personal memorabilia to be displayed in the restaurant, including his iconic Wager card.

That exact Wagner card was stolen as part of a multi-card heist conjured up by employees of the All-Star Café. The robbery was like a movie script. A fake copy of the card replaced the original. Nobody knew about the fake card on display until a SECOND robbery took place. The FBI got involved and there was even a Presidential Pardon. You can read the whole story about the All-Star Café robbery HERE.

The Wagner was recovered and a few days ago was sold through Mile High Card Company auctions. After all bids were in, the T206 Honus Wager that was once stolen from Charlie Sheen sold for $3,060,000.00 after the buyer's premium! Sheen originally paid $222,500 for his card! From $200,000 to $3,000,000 since the late 90's. We love this hobby!
