The Debate of Other Collectors Making Deals at Your Card Show Booth

Right or Wrong? A Mickey Mantle Rookie Card is Sold at Our Booth - Not by Us
  • August 17, 2025

Is it OK to make a deal at someone else's booth during a card show? A Mickey Mantle rookie card was sold at the Just Collect booths during the National Sports Collectors Convention, but it wasn't sold by us. Watch the video and let us know what YOU would do.

While at the National Sports Collectors Convention near Chicago, Just Collect purchased and sold cards all week! We had such a wonderful time. A highlight of the show occurred when our owner, Leighton, sat down with a legend in the hobby, Pat Quinn, where we learned about a complete, SIGNED, 1933 Goudey baseball card set including a Nap Lajoie card valued at over a million dollars in a wild story you can watch HERE. Something else memorable happened with us at the show, too.

An odd moment happened during the show, right at the Just Collect booths. A deal was made to sell and purchase Mickey Mantle rookie card, however, we weren't involved. The Mickey Mantle card was not ours; we did not buy or sell it. A deal was made at our booth!

A collector was interested in selling a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle and a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle. These are two cards we are always buying! Just Collect proudly offers a free appraisal, and did so at the National. Unfortunately, we could not make a deal to purchase either card. A deal was still made, though.

While at our booths, a second collector was interested in buying a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle card. The first collector overheard, and had one ready to be sold. The two collectors chatted at our booth, and made a deal for the Bowman Mantle. The card and money exchanged hands in front of us.

Do YOU think it is appropriate to make a deal for a card at a booth owned by another company?

Leighton tells the story and asked Junk Wax Hero if he thinks the action is OK in this video:

Imagine you own a car dealership and you sell Hondas. A customer drives up to your lot, and asks if you want to buy their Ford card. A second customer pulls in, looking for a Ford, and the Ford car is sold at your Honda dealership. Wrong? Maybe. There is no right or wrong here! Leighton believes the collectors could have made the deal away from the booth, while Mike from Junk Wax Hero has no problem with the location. What do you think?

While we could not purchase either Mickey Mantle rookie card, Just Collect did purchase many cards at the National! We are always buying and selling collections. If you're interested in selling your collection today, here is how you can contact us any time;
