Sealed for 55 years, a 1970 Topps baseball cello pack was opened and broken live on the Vintage Breaks stream - and they pulled a Thurman Munson rookie card!
The world has changed a bit over the last half Century. When these baseball cards were sealed inside of this pack by Topps in 1970, you didn't have the Internet. There were no cell phones to read this post with, and only about ten TV channels existed when this pack was first put on a store shelf. We're talking about a time when a box seat to a Yankees game set you back $4.00! Our sister company,
, opened a sealed cello pack of 1970 Topps baseball cards and a Thurman Munson rookie card was inside!
Thurman Munson was a two-time World Series champion for the New York Yankees (1977 and 1978), the 1976 AL MVP, a seven-time All-Star, and was Rookie of the Year in 1970. Munson is on the prestigious list of Yankee Captains, having been named so in 1976. Vintage Breaks was in awe when pulling a Munson rookie card; we had to share the video withy you!

Above is THE card Vintage Breaks pull from the pack! Thurman Munson is on the top of the card and Dave McDonald on the bottom. McDonald's career wasn't quite the one Munson had, but he did hit one career home run and nobody can ever take that away from him. McDonald has one more home run than we'll ever hit!
How much is a Thurman Munson rookie card valued at? If you're not familiar with grading, professionals companies such as PSA will grade the card on a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being Gem Mint (perfect!). Even the slightest imperfection could alter the grade on a card from a 10 to a 9 and the value decreases by quite a bit - sometimes by thousands of dollars. Currently, PSA has graded 7,771 Munson rookie cards. Only FOUR of those 7,771 cards graded by PSA were given a grade of 10. The last PSA 10 was sold for $99,000! There are 88 non-qualifier PSA 9 Munson rookie cards graded with the last sale in at $2,999.99 - quite the drop-off in price but still a pretty penny. A PSA 8 Munson rookie is valued around $500. You're never guaranteed a PSA 10 right out of pack, but cards freshly-pulled from a pack do stand a chance and receiving nice grades - much better odds than the cards you stacked up and placed a rubber band around! This is why we also give you tips on how to safely store your cards. We have our fingers crossed for Vintage Breaks that this card is graded a PSA 9!
