Fully PSA-Graded 1956 Topps Baseball Complete Set Purchase

A Cross-Country Deal Made Simple
  • April 02, 2021

A complete 1956 Topps baseball card set, FULLY GRADED by PSA, became available and there was zero chance I could miss the opportunity to buy the gorgeous set. Read how simple it is to sell Just Collect a PSA graded collection like this (no matter where you're located!)

When I received one of our free appraisal forms I offer at Just Collect last week, I had to double-check the note: fully graded.  The note was correct: all 340 cards from the 1956 Topps baseball set were graded by PSA.  Despite the collection being entirely across the country, buying the collection was very straightforward and simple.  I'm thrilled to show you the new set after the previous owner, Michael, and I made the deal because you'll have a chance to get in on a set break (and maybe score the Mantle!) for as little as $250.

Don't forget about our sister company, Vintage Breaks, big event where you could win over $15,000 in prizes including a 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle! Read how you can win HERE.

1956 TOPPS BASEBALL CARD SET FACTS

  • 340 cards
  • 2 checklists
  • Released in 4 different series
  • 34 different Hall of Famers featured

The '56 set features players in a horizontal design and has a photo of the players in-action next to their portraits.  I LOVE THIS SET!  With the design and massive amount of Hall of Famers, the '56 ranks high on my list of all-time great sets.  If you'd like to read more about the set itself check out a great article I wrote here.

Back in 1956, Topps baseball cards packs set you back a nickel.  You could also buy a "penny pack" which was one cent for one card.  Imagine taking Doc Brown's DeLorean  back to that year, when packs were five cents...

  • Elvis Presley released his first hit, Heartbreak Hotel
  • Play-Doh hit the shelves
  • IBM invented the very first hard disk
  • Rocky Marciano called it a career; the only undefeated heavyweight boxing champ

Picture when your dad putting yellow play-doh over a Mickey Mantle card while shaking his hips like Elvis on a Sunday morning in 1956 while waiting for the console TV picture to warm up.  Actually, I may have done that in 1980, too...

A CROSS-COUNTRY DEAL

After Michael contacted me through the Just Collect website, I reached out and chatted about the 1956 Topps set.  Michael was just a "short drive" from the Just Collect office here in New Jersey -  Michael lives in Washington.

Before the Covid pandemic, I would have quickly grabbed a plane out to the Puget Sound to meet Michael. However, I'm not yet vaccinated.  Not only do I take my health and safety into consideration but yours, too!  When the Pandemic is over, I will gladly take a plane, bus, car, horse, or Lonestar's Winnebago to you. Until then, I offered Michael the same options I can offer to you:

  • SHIP your collection

If you choose to mail your cards, I will evaluate your cards for FREE still. If you choose not to sell the cards, I'll ship them back shipping fees paid by us!  Michael sent his collection via FedEx with 2-day shipping, fully insured, all covered by me so he would feel comfortable shipping the cards. Contact the office or myself to set up this option.

  • Travel to me!

If you're willing to wear a mask when you and I meet, and you can make the trip here - we can make a deal at the office.  Last month I met a father-son duo that drove eight hours from Virginia to meet me to sell a Michael Jordan rookie card stored in Tupperware since 1986 - great read here

Michael opted not to make the short, 40-hour drive from Washington and instead chose to ship his collection.  Look at what showed up on my desk!

THE COLLECTION

Look at the grades on this collection!  Mickey in a PSA 7, Ted Williams in a 7, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Jackie Robinson all received an 8 from PSA- just stunning.  Look at Ernie Banks in the bottom right crossing home plate - I'd like to imagine Ernie just hit one of his 512 homers in there.  If you're not familiar with the grades PSA assigns to a card, I wrote an article on card grading for you here. PSA is the top grader in the business today.

THE SALE

After my initial offer to Michael, he and I agreed on a price to buy every card from his 1956 Topps set.

Michael understood the value of his collection.  Not only do I have 25 years of experience in buying vintage cards, I've actually purchased a PSA-graded 1956 Topps set before that you can read about here.

"One easiest deals I've done recently.  Free appraisal - Ship - Offer- Deal."   Even Michael agreed how straight-forward and easy the deal was on his Google Review:

Review

Peeling back the curtain, I'm proud to tell you that I can offer 70 to 80% of retail value on a graded collection; more than most other companies

I know what you're thinking: sell at 80%? I can just sell my cards on eBay and get the full 100% value...

Two reasons you would consider to selling to us:  FEES to sell them yourself and TIME it takes to sell them

  • eBay Final value fees are about 12% of the total sale up to $7,500 per card and then 2.35% of the portion of the sale over $7,500. Promotional fees would be on top of that.
  • TIME. There are 340 cards in the set.  Michael will have to make 340 different auctions and ship out 340 different packages if he does not sell his set to one buyer.
To see other reasons as well read our article here about selling on eBay:

Michael chose to have his money WIRED.  No problem.  If we agree on a deal, I'll wire you money, send a check, pay in cash, send you NBA Top Shots.  If you want to sell me your collection in exchange for dinner, I've got my guy, Chef Ted, on speed dial.

VINTAGE BREAKS: YOUR SHOT AT THE MICKEY MANTLE

One of the reasons I'm able to pay more for collections than other companies is because of the sister company to Just Collect - Vintage Breaks.

As the owner of Vintage Breaks, I'm able to offer certain collections I purchase through Just Collect on the Vintage Breaks site.  At Vintage Breaks, you're able to buy spots into both vintage and hot modern packs, boxes, or sets.  I offer a wide variety of products so there is something for everyone at "VB."

You may not able to afford an $8,000 PSA PSA 7 Mickey Mantle from the 1956 Topps set.  What if I told you that you may be able to pick up that same Mantle for $250 in our SET BREAK?

Mantle-1

For the SET BREAK, all 340 cards are available.  EVERY CARD.  Buying 1 spot at $250 guarantees you a card from the set.  All purchases will be randomized live during the Vintage Break broadcast, and after the random, you'll receive the card that matches up with your name.  Taxes and shipping are always included in the price, so the exact Mickey Mantle card from Michael's collection I just purchased will go home to someone that paid for a $250 spot in the break!  You may also land that PSA 8 Hank Aaron, the PSA 8 Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente may end up in your home, and the list goes on - EVERY card will be in the set break.

WORKING AT THE STOCK EXCHANGE

As HOT as the hobby has been of late, I feel every time I walk into my office at Just Collect that I'm stepping onto the floor of the New York Stock Exchange.  In the last year I have purchased more collections like Michael's than I can remember.  A fully-graded PSA 1956 Topps baseball set purchase used to be the biggest purchase of a quarter for me but thanks to you, I've ben fortunate enough to be offered your collections at a record rate. From the second I hang up the phone, the line is ringing like the stock exchange - AND I LOVE IT.  I wouldn't be buying your collections for 25 years if this industry wasn't my passion.  My wife and son - breathing - sports cards, in that order.  Well, if I don't want to sleep on the couch tonight, in that exact order.  I can't let the cat out of the bag yet, but as you read this, I'm working on an incredible piece of vintage memorabilia - can't wait to share it here on the Just Collect blog!  I'm always buying!

WE ARE ALWAYS BUYING

Just Collect is always buying vintage sports and non-sports cards from 1879 to 1979 as well as select modern cards. If you have a collection that you are considering selling, contact me today to discuss or get our industry-leading purchase offer. If you have a collection that you want appraised, please contact us and I would be happy to discuss your collection and help you understand the real cash value of your collection in the current marketplace. Check out the Just Collect buy list blog here

OUR BUYING PHILOSOPHY

I've run into a wide range of people and collections over the last 25 years. Although Just Collect is known for buying vintage sports cards and especially vintage baseball cards, I am also extremely interested in buying non-sports cards, too!

Every collection and every collector is different and I treat EVERY collection with the respect and attention that we show for our own collections. I understand that many have put their heart and souls into building their collections. So when you're ready to sell, I understand the feelings that you're going through and will work with you to help you reach a decision that is a WIN/WIN, because if you're not happy, I'm not happy.
