Just Collect Trades Jordan Rookie for Mantle and Jackie Robinson Cards

Not only do we BUY but we also TRADE cards and collections, too!
  • December 02, 2021

A collector reached out to us here at Just Collect on our Facebook page and was interested in trading their vintage Topps baseball cards for a Michael Jordan rookie card.  Come take a look behind-the-scenes and see not only do we BUY cards and collections, we also TRADE, too. This week, we traded a 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie for Mickey Mantle and Jackie Robinson Topps cards!

Did you know we trade sports cards here at Just Collect? You may know us as one of the most active BUYERS in the world; we've purchased and sold more than 50 million dollars in collections over the last 25 years.  Perhaps you've read about the Yonkers Name Tag Collection with 1930's Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig cards with purchased, or the Fairy Godmother Find with the ultra-rare T206 Eddie Plank. However, we also TRADE cards as well. This week we made a fair and equitable trade from a collector that found our Facebook page.  The best part about the deal is that we know the cards in the trade are going to great homes; we know you can appreciate that yourself as a collector.

THE TRADE

A 1986-87 Fleer rookie card of Michael Jordan was on the wish list of a collector that was browsing the Just Collect Facebook page. We had beautiful Jordan rookie, graded PSA 7, available.  The centering on this Jordan rookie card is very nice; a high-end 7!

Jordan-1

The collector interested in the Jordan rookie card had vintage Topps baseball cards available to offer as part of the trade for the Michael Jordan rookie.  An SGC 3 1956 Topps card of Mickey Mantle, a 1963 Topps Bomber's Best card with Mantle, Tom Tresh, and Bobby Richardson graded SGC 5.5, and a 1955 Topps card of Jackie Robinson that you can see here:

The value of the vintage Topps baseball cards compared to the value of the Michael Jordan rookie card was a bit off, though. MJ rookie cards in a grade of 7 are valued around $7,000. The 1956 Mickey Mantle is valued around $1,600, the Jackie Robinson at $700, and the Bomber's Best card is about $100. A difference of about $5,000 between the vintage Topps baseball cards and the Michael Jordan rookie card

Our initial offer to the collector was the Michael Jordan rookie card for the three vintage Topps cards and $5,000.

A counteroffer was made at the three vintage cards plus $4,500 for the Jordan rookie card.

We turned down the counteroffer but still really wanted to make a deal; the idea of trading was making me feel like a kid again and was fun to be in a position to help someone realize one of their holy grail cards. The collector then asked about a break credit with out sister company, Vintage Breaks. At Vintage Breaks, you can buy into pack or boxes of card breaks with packs from the 1950's up through 2021 products. The new offer to us was: $4,500 in cash + the three vintage Topps cards for the Jordan rookie + break credit to Vintage Breaks. They really wanted our MJ rookie in their collection so much, they even sent us a shrine of where the card would be placed!

Shrine

After seeing how well the Jordan would be taken care of, we knew we couldn't pass up on this trade; we needed to make it happen for this collector.

PS - how cool is that first ever Playboy with Marilyn Monroe from December 1st, 1953?  That iconic magazine debuted 68 years ago TODAY!  Just Collect is buying early-edition Playboy Magazines if you're interested in selling!

We were happy to work out a final trade of $4,750 + 3 vintage Topps cards for the Michael Jordan rookie card and we gladly included a  $100 break credit to Vintage Breaks in the spirt of the holidays.  Can't wait to see the Michael Jordan rookie card displayed in the collector's shrine, next to Marilyn.

If you're interested in trading your cards to us, we have over 1,000 cards available right now on our eBay account! Check out our eBay page and see if there is a card that catches your eye and perhaps you can work out a trade this week, too.
