Bill only collected two players, and did he choose a pair of legends - Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams. Just Collect proudly purchased this collection including a run of Topps, Bowman, and food-issued cards of both greats! Every card was graded including their rookie cards!

After searching Google how to sell his Mickey Mantle cards, bill landed on our Just Collect website, and filled out our free appraisal. When our acquisition specialist, Dan reviewed the images, not only did he see beautiful cards of The Mick, but of Ted Williams, too!

MICKEY MANTLE and TED WILLIAMS COLLECTION

Mickey Mantle was a three-time MVP who won seven World Series championships for the New York Yankees. Ted Williams, a two-time MVP, is considered one of the greatest hitters of all-time, winning six batting titles and four home run titles. Both players each won the Triple Crown by leading the league in average, home runs, and RBI. If you're going to collect only two players, these are two of the best!

A few of our favorite cards in the collection are obviously the rookie cards! The 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle card was produced before the 1952 Topps card. Late in 1950, the Yankees brought Mantle up to the big leagues to gain experience. While he didn't play in a game, Mantle was in pinstripes, and Bowman included the future Hall of Famer in their 1951 set. Ted Williams was only 20 in 1939, and knocked in 145 RBI! For comparison, Cal Raleigh had the most RBI in 2025 with 125.

The 1954 Dan-Dee Potato Chips Mantle was inserted directly into bags of chips! Imagine how this Mantle card got banged around inside that bag of chips - from factory to store to home to being played with. This card survived the chips and then for another 70 years! A time when a bag of chips set you back a cool 25 cents; slightly less than a 75-cent bleacher ticket to watch Mantle play in Yankee Stadium.

Ted Williams bookends the 1954 Topps set at card #1 and card #250. After already serving in WWII, Teddy Ballgame was recalled to active duty for the Korean War in 1952. There are no major release cards of Williams in 1952 or 1953, and Topps placed him perfectly into the '54 set.

Below are photos of each card. All cards are graded, and you can see a run of their entire careers.

APPRAISAL AND PURCHASE

After Dan reviewed Bill's appraisal form, he called right away. Just Collect was about to head to The Philly Show to buy and sell collections from Friday-Sunday. Bill said he was not in a rush and would hold until we came back from the show. From the moment he returned to our office in Summit, NJ, Dan began the evaluation and had it ready by Tuesday!

Dan sent an initial appraisal to Bill who was happy with the information. First, we needed to review the cards in-person as some of the cards were graded by companies we had never heard of, and a few cards had older PSA labels. In these instances, we review the card rather than the grade. The turnaround was going to be tight, though as our owner, Leighton was heading to the Topps Industry Conference in Arizona and Strongsville, OH. to purchase collections. The best solution - our fully-insured FedEx account! We had Bill overnight the cards to Just Collect so Leighton could review the older PSA grades and the cards from random grading companies. The retail stores are focused on selling modern products and simply don't have the time or the knowledge to carefully evaluate vintage collections like these Mantle and Williams cards. This is where we are happy to help you! We have purchased thousands upon thousands of collections and bought and sold over 50 MILLION dollars in cards. After Leighton reviewed the cards, our Vice President, John, and Dan called Bill to complete the purchase!

After purchasing each card in the collection, we paid Bill how he wanted to be paid! When you choose Just Collect to sell your collection to, we can pay you in cash, company check, or wire transfer.

Bill said he felt confident in our company because of the Google Reviews and our passion for vintage sports cards. He was happy with the final offer and made sure to leave us a Google review of the process.

"Just Collect provided an impeccable and professional experience as they worked with me to buy my baseball card collection. They were courteous and efficient while arranging the details of this transaction from start to finish. The offer they made me was incredibly fair which saved me many, many hours of work and delivered a better bottom line than I could have achieved auctioning on my own. Kudos to Dan Phillips and John Palomares."
