Vintage Wax and Rare Treasures as Just Collect Goes Behind the Scenes at the National

Written by Monte Jennings | Jul 30, 2021 1:38:12 AM

We're live here at the National in Chicago and some of the rarest items you can imagine are at the show.  Let's go behind-the-scenes with pictures, stories, and a purchase or two you're going to love! Can you believe there is even a ticket to Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding here?  We'll be here all week, BUYING your collections as well!

Yesterday we told you about the Bill Russell personal items we saw and just when we thought we couldn't see anything cooler, today happened.

ALL THE COBBS

We lost count of how many Ty Cobb cards are in this case, each a Red Portrait variation from the 1909-1911 T206 set!  We're always interested in buying Ty Cobb cards.  We purchased a collection with a T206 Cobb from a collector that paid just 75 cents for the card!

VINTAGE WAX

Full, sealed boxes of 1970's baseball!  Look at those two boxes of 1971 Topps.   Imagine paying just ten cents per pack today and pulling out the likes of Thurman Munson or Pete Rose, pack-fresh?  The prices have gone up just a tad since you the days when you rode your boke to the town store for a pack. Sadly, these packs did not cost a dime today.

While walking the floor, we found a sealed box of 1969 Topps basketball that could hold a pack-fresh Kareem Abdul-Jabbar rookie!  Look at the price tag: $500,000 +!   We LOVE buying these "Tall Boys" basketball cards.

This 1971 O-Pee-Chee Hockey 2nd series wax pack could contain a mint Guy Lafleur rookie!

RARE TICKETS

Darren Rovell brought his personal ticket collection today. While there are some incredible tickets in the display, one particularly stood out.

This is a ticket AND program from Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding!  The timing is spot-on as the event took place 40 years ago today! Wednesday, 29 July 1981, at St Paul's Cathedral in London, United Kingdom.

RUTH - MANTLE - ROBINSON

As a Yankee fan, I was drawn to the Mickey Mantle rookie cards!  PSA and SGC graded these 1951 Bowman and 1952 Topps rookies. High graded examples, too; the SGC 7 Mantle is a superb copy. We're always looking to buy Mantle rookie cards here at Just Collect.  We recently bought a 1952 Topps Mantle rookie card that was stored under jars of pickles!  What a fun story you can read about here

The National is sure to have some cards you may never see again in-person!  How about these AUTOGRAPHED cards from Babe Ruth ðŸ‘€ In the bottom row you can see Babe Ruth Goudey cards that Ruth inked. Ruth Goudey cards are always on our BUY LIST. Just last week we purchased a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth in The Lone Wolf Collection.

Speaking of AWESOME autographs - this is a signed postcard from the great Jackie Robinson!  Jackie sent this card to a fan in 1952:

Did you ever mail autograph requests to your favorite players?  Two envelopes, two stamps, your favorite card, and off it went!

WE ARE BUYING AT THE NATIONAL!

If you're at the National show this week, come stop by our booth #1518!  We're buying collections all week!  We picked up this set of those very same 1933 Goudey cards just a few moments ago.

We'll post all about the purchase when we get back from the National, but here some me in-action:

I LOVE this.  Come pull up a chair at our booth and we'll talk about your collection any day this week! This is behind our booth so there are no interruptions from the crowd; just you and I...and your cards.

WE ARE ALWAYS BUYING

Can't come to the National?  We're always buying, all year, from anywhere!

Just Collect is always buying vintage sports and non-sports cards from 1879 to 1979 as well as select modern cards. Your collection doesn't have to be all vintage either!  I recently bought a graded card collection of more modern cards that was filled with rookie cards of Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, and even Hulk Hogan that you can see here.

If you have a collection that you are considering selling, contact me today to discuss or get our industry-leading purchase offer. If you have a collection that you want appraised, please contact us and I would be happy to discuss your collection and help you understand the real cash value of your collection in the current marketplace. Check out the Just Collect buy list blog here

OUR BUYING PHILOSOPHY

I've run into a wide range of people and collections over the last 25 years. Although Just Collect is known for buying vintage sports cards and especially vintage baseball cards, I am also extremely interested in buying non-sports cards, too!

Every collection and every collector is different and I treat EVERY collection with the respect and attention that we show for our own collections. I understand that many have put their heart and souls into building their collections. So when you're ready to sell, understand the feelings that you're going through and will work with you to help you reach a decision that is a WIN/WIN, because if you're not happy, I'm not happy.

CONTACT ME ANY TIME

Whether you have single cards of Babe Ruth, vintage cards, complete vintage sets, or select modern stars, I'd love to hear from you!
