Championship Rings to Olympic Gold Medal, Game-Worn Jersey and More Availabe
  • November 28, 2021

Boston Celtics legend, Bill Russell, is auctioning off his personal items that includes NBA championship rings, game-worn jersey, and even his Olympic Gold medal is available!

When we were at the National back in July, we told you about incredible pieces of memorabilia from Bill Russell that were on display. Russell planned to auction off many of is prized items to benefit his charityMENTOR, to help in mentoring our youth.  The Auction is now open for pre-bidding, and the memorabilia is mind-blowing!

Here are a few highlights of the auction;

This was Russel's first of his unmatched 11 championship rings. The Celtics took down the St. Louis Hawks in 7 games in a series that saw both Game 1 and Game 7 go to double overtime. Russel had 32 rebounds in game 7! No estimated price range on this, but we can guess that the sky is the limit!

The final title of Russel's career. The Celtics beat a stacked Lakers team in 7 games in 1969.  The Lakers had Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Wilt Chamberlain on their team!  Not only did Russell play in the game, he also coached; what a feat. The estimated price range is $200,000 - $400,000.

This is the final game jersey that Russell ever wore! The auction does not end for another three weeks, and the bidding is already at $302,500.

Bill Russell Olympic Gold Medal

Russell was fresh off back-to-back National Championships when he suited up for the US Olympic team to win gold in 1956. The US won every game by an average of 53.5 points in the Summer Games with Russell leading the way at 14.1 points per game. All Bill Russell did was WIN. The price estimate on the gold medal is "available upon request", but could you ever put a price on a gold medal?

Bill Russell 10,000 Point Basketball

On December 12th, 1964, Russell became the 23rd player to score 10,000 NBA career points; this is the exact ball!  Estimated value is $50,000 to $100,000.

Bill Russell-1

Not just any rookie, but this was Bill's personal copy of his rookie card!  The 1957 Topps Basketball Set is important to the hobby as it's not just the debut of Topps in the sport, but there had been no NBA sets released since 1948 Bowman. Imagine a card world today when the NBA doesn't see a set of cards for almost a decade.

If you want to check out ALL of the items, Hunt Auctions has their pre-bidding open now and live auction is December 10th.  You can view the auction HERE. If you buy any of the items, we'd love to hear about it!

If you have any Bill Russell items such as autographs or his rookie card, we are always interested in purchasing your collection.  We recently purchased an entire set of 1957 Topps basketball cards including the Russell rookie that you can read about HERE.
