A childhood baseball card collection from the 1950's was passed down to a son that decided now is the time to sell the beautiful Topps cards. Loaded with multiple Roberto Clemente rookie cards, and other stars like Jackie Robinson and Ted Williams, the son was worried about shipping such a valuable collection. We worked out a perfect, safe solution in order to have the cards arrive here at Just Collect - we purchased the cards in batches.
When Marty's dad was a kid, he did what we all did as kids - bought packs of Topps baseball cards from the local store. Unlike most every kid in the 1950's, though, pop knew better to put his cards in bike spokes or play games of flip with his cards. Growing up in Southern Illinois, dad was a big Cubbies fan. Not only did Marty's dad handle his Cubs cards with care, but he did so with all of the cards in his collection. Dad handled the cards for a short period of time and put them away. When Marty's dad passed, he handed down the childhood baseball card collection, telling Marty he may do as he wished with the cards.
After seeing a 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente rookie card sold at an auction, Marty recalled having several of those cards from his dad's collection. Unable to get his cards graded by PSA with the current shutdown and high-grading costs, Marty decided to search Google for "Where to sell my cards.", and found us here at Just Collect.
THE BATCHES COLLECTION
My name is John, and I'm vintage card specialist here at Just Collect. I was very happy to speak with Marty and to not only give a FREE appraisal but offer to do so in-person! Marty lives in Illinois and Just Collect was going to be at the National. Unfortunately the venue was a six-hour drive from Marty and couldn't make the drive while I was there for the week. When I offered the option to SHIP his collection to the Just Collect office here in New Jersey, Marty was a little worried about sending such a valuable collection through the mail all at the same time. I very much understood Marty's concern and we worked out a perfect, safe solution! I provided a FexEx Express 2-Day Service label, which is fully insured through our company for Marty to ship out his cards in BATCHES.
Sending just a small batch of cards to Just Collect first, Marty's cards arrived safely here in New Jersey. I appraised the cards, and we agreed on a deal to purchase this batch of 1950's Topps cards that included one Roberto Clemente card and one Sandy Koufax rookie card, both from the 1955 Topps set. I sent Marty a check out via FedEx to buy the first batch of cards.
With the first batch and purchase having gone well, Marty was ready to sell Just Collect another batch of cards from collection! In Batch number two came 1956 Topps cards from Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams, and Al Kaline. As I carefully pulled out each card, more cards from these incredible players were in the package, this time from the 1955 Topps set. In total, Marty sold THREE batches of cards to us at Just Collect!
In 1955, the first T-Bird car hit the streets. On the Waterfront was the top movie. Until April 17th, Albert Einstein was still alive. The Dodgers were still in Brooklyn! Let that time-frame sink in for a second. Just how long ago those baseball cards were sitting on the shelf at the local store... You can tell that Marty's dad truly took care of his collection, and Marty did the same.
Just Collect is proud to have purchased the "Batches" collection from Marty; I couldn't ask for a better customer.
I provide a FREE APPRAISAL on our site where you can tell me about your collection as well as upload photos.
If you choose to mail your cards for an appraisal like Marty did, I will evaluate your cards for FREE still. If you choose not to sell the cards, I'll ship them back shipping fees paid by us! I can offer my FedEx account with 2-day shipping, fully insured, all covered by me. Simply contact the office or myself to set up this option.
If you can make the trip here - we can make a deal at the office. I once met a father-son duo that drove eight hours from Virginia to meet me to sell a Michael Jordan rookie card stored in Tupperware since 1986 - great read here.
I keep a LIST of card shows I'll be attending. Come stop by the Just Collect table and chat.
If you have a valuable collection and want me to come to you, I'll hop on the next plane out.
