Texans QB Deshaun Watson Buys $45,000 The Rock Rookie Card

NFL Star Casually Shows Off Expensive Card With Big-Time Musician
  • February 15, 2021

Looks like NFL star quarter back, Deshaun Watson, is in on the sports card game.  The (for now) Texans signal caller showed off a football rookie card of WWE/Hollywood A-Lister The Rock while having lunch with a well-known music star.

Last week we told you about a football rookie card from Dwayne The Rock Johnson that sold for $45,100.  The 1994 Miami/Bumble Bee card is from The Rock's college football days and is tough to find in top condition; only 30 copies in a grade of PSA 10 are known.  Looks like one of those copies is now in the hands of Texans' QB, Deshaun Watson.

This blog is sponsored by JUST COLLECT where we specialize in buying vintage cards, autographs, and collections. We're always down for vintage NFL or wrestling wax and some singles, too. If you're looking to sell any of your cards to either save up and buy a Rock rookie or new Deshaun Watson cards, THESE cards are on our BUY LIST.

PS  - don't forget about our Golden Edition EVENT where we're giving away over $3,000 in break credit you could use to snatch up some vintage and modern football or wrestling cards!  Check out our event HERE

1994 Miami/Bumble Bee Dwayne Johnson:

  • From a perforated sheet; hard to separate into good condition
  • 24 cards in a set
  • Contains rookie cards of Hall of Famers Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis
  • The Rock has 30 known examples in PSA 10 grade

Watson uploaded the photo on his Instagram page. Just casually displaying a $45,000 rookie card on the lunch table while hanging out with music legend Timbaland.  How often is a musician with 21 Grammy Award nominations given a backseat to a football card...  Only in our current collecting market!

Is Watson diving into the collecting world?  Or are we to speculate this move of posting a Rock rookie card from Miami is a dig at his trade aspirations to be a Dolphin?

If the post is truly just Watson hopping into the card world, he'd be another high-profile athlete to see both the fun and investment opportunities that collecting can bring!

Kevin Durant recently signed a dual card of he and Kobe that Bryant gifted him for the collection. LeBron James hinted he has a few copies of his own rookie card that sold for 1.8 million dollars. Giannis Antetokounmpo shared a collection of his own cards in a since-deleted video, but the Internet was able to catch it!

I believe that Watson is following the path of other high-profile athletes getting into the card game is the reason for The Rock's rookie having a little breakfast rather than toying with the Texans GM.  If this is true, what other cards do you think Deshauwn Watson has in his collection?  Let us know here on the blog post or reach out!
